Snail Trail Tutorial

Ever looked at a snail trail quilt block but were hesitant to try it? Always wondered what using foundation papers would be like, but never tried? Well, here is your chance. Come to the snail trail tutorial to learn two methods for making a 12" snail trail block. We will be constructing two blocks, one using only rulers and the other using the foundation papers.

Suggested Material and Tools

  •       Sewing machine in good working order (needles, thread, bobbins, presser feet).
  •       Quarter-inch foot for the machine or another method for making a quarter-inch seam
  •       Sewing needles (recommend sizes 80 or 90)
  •       Good long Egyptian cotton thread. It is recommended to choose a thread of a neutral color so it will blend in with whatever is used for background and faces.
  •       Rotary Cutter
  •       Cutting mat (available for use in the classroom if you wish)
  •       Marking pen/pencil
  •       Scissors
  •       Iron (available in the classroom)
  •       Long pins
  •       Rulers Recommend the 6" × 24" Omnigrid or Creative Grid ruler. The 3" × 18" and 1" × 6" is also useful
  •       One sheet of foundation paper will be provided to each participant.
  •       You will need enough material of two different patterns. Preferably a light and a dark so you can easily see the pattern. It is possible that two fat quarters would be enough, or bring fabric of your choice from your stash.
